Kottayam is a beautiful town situated in the foothills of the western ghats. A prominent commercial centre especially for cash crops like tea, rubber, pepper and cardomom. The district also houses many ancient churches. Most of the publication houses of the State are located in and around Kottayam. , in the heart of the rubber plantations. This place is 154 kms from thiruvananthapuram and 65 kms from Cochin. Mid-land close to Vembanad lake, Hilly areas close to Idukki district forms the main land, which does not have any seaside.

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, Boating ...etc
Paathiramanal A small island in the vembanad lake. Wonderful picnic spot, and a rest place for the backwater tourists. The land belongs to Alappuzha district, but easily accessible from Kumarakom.
